Hello, cousins! My name is John Stephenson. I'm the 4th great grandson of Betty Sproule from Greenan who married Matthew Caldwell from Magheranageerah circa 1790. Their son, Casper, married Jane Cunningham from Raphoe and their daughter, Catherine, married my 2nd great grandfather, Matthew Stephenson, who was born near Raphoe. Matthew and Catherine eventually settled in Escanaba, Michigan, and most of this branch still remain in Michigan, as do I. I've been doing family research since 1997, but I'm new to the DNA aspect. I have lots of reading to do but welcome any advice or suggestions regarding testing. I'm still trying to understand the complexity of the Sproule family in County Tyrone. Kate's blog is a great help and has introduced me to genealogical charts of Jack Elder's that I didn't know existed. My family in Michigan has possession of one his original charts, which was given to Catherine Caldwell Stephenson, and had been tucked in our family bible.
